Friday 6th of June 2009 - Written by Lynda Lewis

A reminder to all, British Dalmatian Welfare Funday is being held on Sunday 7th June at Horspath Village Hall, Horspath, Oxon.  As mentioned before lots of fun things to participate in no charge for any activity, homemade food and all profits to British Dalmatian Welfare.  It’s a wonderful day out and if they are still providing lure racing its worth going even if it’s only to see Eric Russell pedaling his bike.
The Irish Kennel Club has agreed to a second All Ireland Dalmatian Club Championship Show in 2009 to celebrate their 75th year.  The Show will be held on 13th September 2009 at the National Show Centre (Cloughran).  The judge will be Monica Boardman.  Green Stars will be on offer.
Show Secretary is Mrs. Louisa Casey, Kasara, Gaulstown, Rochfortbridge, Mullingar, Co.West Meath. Schedules and online entry will be available from www.dogshowentry.ie  please do not rush for these straight away as I am told they will not be available for a couple of months
At Redditch and District Canine Show Jenny Alexander’s Offordale Solitaire won best of breed under Debbie Wallace, Group One under Pam Mottershaw and finally Best in Show under Colin Powell this I believe gives her the last point for her Junior Warrant.
At Coventry and District Canine Society Show the following day Jenny went BOB and Group One under Peter Radley with Offordale White Lady.
Nina Fleming has asked me to mention that there appears to be quite a few dogs coughing recently, this has not been due to Kennel Cough but lungworm.
Bath Championship show held on Bank Holiday Monday managed to stay fine for us this year, although at one time the forecast was not good, could anything be as bad as last year. Dalmatian Breed notes 29th May
As mentioned previously I attended the KC Question time at Newport last week along with Nina Fleming. Since then we have both spoken to several breeders/exhibitors who attended and they like us felt it was a farce with nothing really achieved.  We were informed there are now some 4000 members, yet in Dog World some 2 days later I read an article saying there were 3700.  We were also informed 70 had been suspended, again it was not made clear whether they were suspended pending further investigation or suspended for good.  Bill Lambert advised the audience that the KC are taking on breeder advisors and when these people are in place they will be making 350-400 visits per year, anyone breeding 5 litters or more will be visited automatically.  These visits are not unannounced therefore once a breeder knows they are imminent the unscrupulous ones will have the chance to hide anything that does not fit the criteria.  Several breeders who are not part of the ABS voiced concerns over being contacted when they had puppies for sale by breeders who were in the scheme wishing to purchase puppies.  A breeder of a toy breed was very concerned as when she questioned the ABS breeder as to why she wanted another puppy she discovered they had absolutely no knowledge of the breed whatsoever, and the price they were charging brought gasps from around the room.  The only advantage that was quoted was if you are in the scheme when the puppy list is issued by the KC, ABS breeders are at the top of the list.  Nina and I found this very disturbing with regard to our breed, Baer hearing testing is recommended under the KC health recommendations not compulsory, therefore if a breeder tests their stock and are not Accredited they will be below the breeder who does not test but is in the scheme.
The show season is getting well under way now with SKC holding their show last Friday 15th May, I gather the weather was not good, very cold and windy.  A resilient lot we show people.  The Judge  Mrs B Smith found her DCC and BOB in Mr & Mrs Caseys CH/IR CH CAMARGUE CALVIN KLEIN (AN CH 07 & 08) who then went on to take Group 2 under Terry Nethercott, RDCC Mrs Carvells TIMMY WILLIE WITH LILAL JW, BCC Jo Roach’s CH HEBE ALEATORY IN HOLDERNESS JW SHCM RBCC Charlotte Page’s CH Winflash Spring Angel ShCM BPD and BP Crofts Doubtwell Show Stopper
