There are four Dalmatian schemes run to help Dalmatians in Britain. These schemes are set up not only to help rehome unwanted Dalmatians but also to help owners cope with their dogs and to place much loved dogs who sadly require rehoming due to family or business commitments.
Dalmatians are not for everyone, they require both companionship and large amounts of free exercise. Yet they are sold sometimes to unsuspecting owners who do not have the time or energy needed to rear this lovely breed. This can result in puppies becoming large over-energetic dogs with little or no control or commitment. Irresponsible breeding (e.g. from bitches under 2 years of age or from bitches who are made to have litters every season) and irresponsible selling to owners without thought of suitability, results in dog and owner becoming in need of help! All the schemes are set up to try and advise, where asked, or in extreme circumstances to find good understanding homes for those dogs who have been misplaced.
For details of Dalmatians currently in special need see British Dalmatian Welfare or for the list of dogs on the North of England Welfare Service.
